Generate Codes for New Assets

Add assets by generating custom barcodes or QR codes. You can generate codes sequentially or enter them manually.

You can generate a maximum of 1000 barcodes/QR codes at a time.

Role Required: SDAdmin or users with Add Inventory permission

Generate Codes for New Assets

Go to Assets > Barcode/QR Code > Generate Code.
Click Generate Codes for New Assets.

Step 1: Generate Codes and Add Assets

Select a Product Type and a Product. Click to add a product.
Select a Site to associate with the asset.
Enter the Location of the asset.
For Computer and Workstation product types, select Barcode/QR code as Service Tag to map the generated barcode or QR code value to the Service Tag field.
Select the code generation method: Sequential or Manual.
Configure the selected method.
Click Add Assets.

Step 2: Check Asset Addition Status

The Asset Addition Status section displays whether assets are added successfully.

If the asset addition is successful, click Continue to Print.
If asset addition fails, descriptive error messages are displayed. Resolve the errors and try again.

Added assets are stored under their respective product types.

Step 3: Print Barcodes/QR Codes

In the Print barcodes/QR codes section, select the code type: Barcode or QR code.
Select the Label Property. Click to add a label property.
Preview the label in the canvas.
Unclear labels are highlighted in yellow and cannot be scanned properly. You can remove unclear labels from being printed.
Click Print.

Click Print Later to print codes later. Unprinted codes are available under Assets > Barcode/QR Code > History.
Click Test Print to print the first row of the label.

Code Generation Methods

Sequential Method

The sequential method generates consecutive barcode/QR code values based on the Starting From value.

Enter a Prefix and Suffix. You can use alphanumeric or special characters.
Enter the Starting From value.
Specify the number of assets in the Count field. The number of codes generated is based on the count value.

If you have already added the asset by using barcode or QR codes, the count will be automatically incremented. Say you have added 25 workstations from count 1, the next time you add a workstation, the count will automatically start from 26.

Add comments, if any.
Click Add Assets.

For example, if you have 10 new Mac laptops and need QR Codes from the number 100. You can add the Starting From value as 100 and the Count as 10. Enter the Prefix (MAC) and Suffix (ZLKR).

The generated QR Code will be as follows MAC100ZLKR, MAC101ZLKR, and so on.

Manual Method

The manual method allows you to enter barcode/QR code values manually. Multiple values can be separated by commas.

Enter the required code values, including prefixes, numbers, or special characters.
Add comments, if required.
Click Add Assets.

For example, assume you have a new Mac laptop. You can enter the code value as MAC001ZLKR. The QR code will be generated with the same value.
